What one feature story includes - Paying the writer. A fair fee for the reporter or contributor behind the story. - Reporting costs. Travel, public records requests, data, and the other on-the-ground expenses that make deep reporting possible. - Editing and fact-checking. Multiple rounds of editorial review, and every claim checked before it runs.
