Our Community Reporting Fellowship trains early-career journalists and community members to report the stories they’re closest to, with the skills, mentorship, and backing of a newsroom behind them. When you sponsor a fellow, you help someone tell a story that might otherwise never be told, and you help build the next generation of independent journalists.

Where should your gift go?

Fellowship · $1,500.00
What one fellowship includes - A four-month program. Structured time to develop and report one story end to end, at the fellow’s own pace. - Eight hands-on workshops. Training in interviewing, sourcing, reporting ethics, reporter safety, and more. - One-on-one mentorship. Regular check-ins with an editor who guides the story from pitch to publication. - Reporting costs covered. Travel, records requests, data, and other expenses so the story can be reported properly. - Editing and fact-checking. Full editorial support to bring the piece to publication standard. - A published story. The finished piece runs on The Parlor and reaches our readers, and the fellow keeps the rights to their work. - A portfolio of their own. Fellows build their own portfolio site during the program, so they leave with a professional home for their work.

The Parlor Magazine is fiscally sponsored by The Tiny News Collective (EIN 85-3963369), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. You are donating to The Tiny News Collective, which will hold your gift in a restricted fund for the charitable purposes of The Parlor Magazine but retains variance power in accordance with our fiscal sponsorship agreement with The Parlor Magazine and FASB Statements 958-605-25-25 and -26.
